So, anyway, I’ve found that grocery shopping is quite an adventure.  A few tips:

1. Never go shopping hungry, my dad taught me that.  It’s a rookie mistake, but can prove to be pretty dangerous.  
2. The best time to go shopping is on a weeknight.  Otherwise it’s crowded, and also Sunday nights seem to have not so good produce. Learned this the hard way.
3. Buy food strategically. 
4. Look for the good cart, one that doesn’t pull to side too much. If you get a crooked cart you end up fighting with it the entire time and people just look at you like you’re crazy.
5. Plug into some music and enjoy yourself.

So my personal food buying strategy is to only buy food that I like, but that is also good for you.  If I don’t buy junk food, I don’t eat it. So really, it comes down to making choices, I mean, your parents aren’t here to shop for you or make you eat your vegetables, so it’s easy to go nuts with the junk food- which is good in moderation.  I still have my share of junk food, just not in the apartment.  This way I’m not eating because I’m bored, or at least, I’m not eating junk because I’m bored.  

There is a phase 2 to the ‘diet.’  It is the I haven’t gone grocery shopping in a month phase.  It’s where you wait until all you have left is: one heel of bread, a can of beans, a piece of cheese, some vanilla frosting, and half a jar of peanut butter.  

I like vegetables.  And I think this is funny. It’s food related.

My name is Amy and I have been in college for three full years… wow, here’s to number four!  It has been quite an adventure and outside of the schooling aspect of it I’ve learned a lot of new things, had a lot of new experiences, and met a lot of interesting people.  I’ve been happy, sad, bored, anxious, comfortable, entertained, awkward, interested, challenged, confused, worried, and content (luckily… not all at once). 

You might hear people call it “a transition into adulthood,” and don’t worry, when you’re not looking, that part just kinda happens (so don’t be in such a hurry to “grow up”). The thing that matters to me is that I am enjoying Amy just being Amy… who happens to be in College. I guess what I’m getting at here is, being in college has taught and is teaching me a lot about myself, and it hasn’t always been easy, but more often than not it’s amusing, and it helps me to stand back and chuckle a little bit about all the things I learn, or experience.  I hope you enjoy my anecdotes as much as I do, and I hope they inspire you to have just as much fun being you.
